Upstate Art Weekend Returns With 160 Venues and New Ways to Explore the Hudson Valley

The seventh edition of Upstate Art Weekend officially opens this weekend, bringing together artists, galleries, museums, and cultural spaces across New York’s Hudson Valley for one of the region’s largest annual arts celebrations.

Since launching in 2020 with just 23 participating venues, the festival has expanded dramatically. This year’s event features approximately 160 participating locations, while a newly introduced open studios event held in May showcased the work of around 240 artists.

One of the biggest changes for the 2026 edition is its new position on the arts calendar. Instead of taking place in late July, the festival now follows immediately after Art Basel, giving visitors another major opportunity to experience contemporary art during the summer season.

Organizers have also partnered with Bloomberg Connects to improve the visitor experience. The free digital guide includes an interactive map, detailed venue information, and a personalized itinerary planner that allows attendees to organize their schedules while estimating travel times between locations.

The planning tool is particularly valuable because the festival stretches across nearly 6,000 square miles of the Hudson Valley. Visitors can create routes based on geographic regions, artistic interests, or themed experiences, making it easier to navigate the extensive lineup of exhibitions.

While well-known destinations such as Dia: Beacon, Storm King Art Center, Jack Shainman’s The School in Kinderhook, and the Campus in Hudson remain major attractions, the festival also highlights dozens of smaller galleries, artist-run spaces, and emerging exhibition venues that offer unique experiences away from the larger crowds.

With hundreds of artists and a wide variety of exhibitions spread throughout the region, Upstate Art Weekend continues to establish itself as one of the premier contemporary art events in the northeastern United States, offering something for seasoned collectors, casual visitors, and first-time art enthusiasts alike.
