The man accused of orchestrating the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur told police in 2008 that he handed the gun used in the fatal drive-by shooting to another passenger, who then passed it to his nephew, according to a recording played in court.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis is currently on trial in Las Vegas and faces one count of murder with a deadly weapon over Shakur’s 1996 killing. Jurors heard a recording of Davis’s police interview from 2008 on Thursday.

Prosecutors allege that Davis did not personally fire the weapon that killed Shakur but ordered the shooting and provided the gun as part of criminal activity involving the gang he helped lead.

Davis, now 63, has pleaded not guilty to the charge. The 2008 interview is expected to be an important part of the prosecution’s case as the trial examines the events surrounding Shakur’s death.
