Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati, the eldest child of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has died at the age of 47, according to a statement released by the Royal Palace.
The princess had been in a coma since December 2022 after suffering a sudden loss of consciousness caused by a serious heart condition while visiting the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima. She was immediately airlifted to Bangkok for emergency medical treatment.
According to the palace, Princess Bajrakitiyabha passed away on Thursday evening after her condition worsened due to several health complications, including an intra-abdominal infection, colitis, low blood pressure, heart rhythm disorders, and blood clotting problems.
Popularly known as Princess Pa, she was born on December 7, 1978, to then Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn and Princess Soamsawali. She was widely respected for her public service, legal expertise, and charitable work throughout Thailand.
Her death marks a significant loss for Thailand’s royal family and the nation, where she was regarded as one of the monarchy’s most prominent and admired members.
The Royal Palace is expected to announce details of official mourning ceremonies and funeral arrangements in the coming days.
