Pimicikamak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba remains under lockdown after a fatal shooting left one person dead and prompted a large police response.
Chief David Monias said in a video update on social media that the suspected shooter remained at large, urging residents to stay indoors while authorities continued their search.
“The shooter is still on the loose. We’re under lockdown,” Monias said.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), officers were called to the community at around 9:30 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of a seriously injured person on the main road leading into the First Nation.
Emergency responders attended the scene, but the victim died from their injuries.
Police have not yet released the identity of the deceased or provided details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident and are searching for the suspect. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and follow instructions from law enforcement until the lockdown is lifted.
The investigation remains ongoing, with RCMP expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
