A manhunt is under way in Switzerland after a shooting at a techno rave left a 22-year-old woman dead and five other people injured.

Police said the woman died at the scene in Aarau. Four men and another woman, aged between 24 and 27, were taken to hospital with injuries described as ranging from minor to severe.

The shooting took place at a rave being held at the Schachen horse racing track in Aarau, around 46km west of Zurich. Police received the first report of shots being fired at approximately 02:30 local time.

Authorities have launched a search for the person responsible, but police said the identity of the shooter and the motive behind the attack remained unclear.

Police spokesperson Bernhard Graser said investigators had no concrete leads at the time. He added that the suspect was unlikely to still be in Aarau and said there was no indication of an imminent danger to the public.

Performers at the event also described the aftermath of the shooting on social media. One DJ said the incident happened shortly after their set ended.

Another performer, DJ Tekibo, said he had lost a friend in the shooting and was still trying to process what had happened.

Police investigations into the deadly shooting are continuing as authorities work to identify and locate the person responsible.
