Kendall Jenner made a dramatic statement at the 2026 Met Gala by embracing ancient Greek inspiration for one of the evening’s most talked-about fashion moments.
For her 12th appearance at the prestigious fashion event, Jenner collaborated with designer Zac Posen, creative director of Gap Inc., to create a custom GapStudio gown inspired by the famous Winged Victory of Samothrace sculpture.
The iconic second-century Greek statue, which represents the goddess of victory, is one of the Louvre Museum’s most celebrated artworks and served as the central inspiration behind Jenner’s flowing and sculptural Met Gala ensemble.
Despite never having officially worked together before, Jenner and Posen reportedly shared mutual admiration for each other’s work. Jenner revealed that one of Posen’s earlier creations — actress Christina Ricci’s memorable 2011 Met Gala gown, often referred to as the “spider dress” — had remained a longtime fashion inspiration for her.
She described the design as one of her all-time favorite Met Gala looks, praising both its dramatic style and timeless elegance.
Posen, meanwhile, said he had always hoped to collaborate with Jenner on a major fashion project. Having previously worked closely with Jenner’s sister, Kim Kardashian, the designer saw the 2026 Met Gala theme as the perfect opportunity to finally create a look specifically for Kendall.
According to Posen, he personally reached out to Jenner with a letter expressing his desire to design her outfit for the event, believing she was the ideal person to embody the artistic vision inspired by classical mythology and sculpture.
The resulting gown featured flowing drapery, wing-like detailing, and a silhouette reminiscent of ancient marble statues, perfectly aligning with the Met Gala’s celebration of fashion as an art form.
Jenner’s appearance quickly became one of the standout moments of the evening, with fashion critics and fans praising the blend of classical inspiration and modern couture craftsmanship.
The 2026 Met Gala once again showcased how celebrities and designers continue transforming historic artworks and cultural icons into elaborate red carpet fashion statements.
