Iran has indicated that a potential agreement with the United States to end the ongoing conflict is nearing completion, with the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz forming a key part of the proposed deal.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said in remarks to state television that negotiations have progressed significantly and that the agreement would include the reopening of the vital shipping route. He also stated that the deal could lead to the lifting of the U.S. blockade on Iran, while discussions regarding the country’s nuclear programme would take place at a later stage.

Officials in the United States have acknowledged elements of the proposed arrangement, although they stressed that any economic benefits provided to Iran would depend on Tehran fulfilling its commitments under the agreement.

The conflict began on February 28 following military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran. Tehran responded with attacks against Israel and several U.S.-allied Gulf states, leading to heightened tensions across the region.

One of the most significant consequences of the conflict has been the disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The narrow waterway is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, handling a substantial share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports.
