Iran-backed Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for a missile attack on Saudi Arabia after Riyadh launched air strikes against targets linked to the group in Yemen.

The Houthis’ Ansarollah media channel said on Telegram that a “Yemeni missile strike” caused fires in the Saudi city of Jizan. Saudi authorities had earlier issued emergency alerts in the province.

The claimed attack came after Saudi Arabia carried out strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen’s port city of Hodeida and a nearby island. The Houthis had warned of retaliation following the strikes.

The incident occurred during a brief pause in wider regional military activity, with no overnight reports of new US or Iranian air strikes for the first time in two weeks.

The US military had previously carried out multiple consecutive nights of attacks on Iran, while Tehran responded with drone strikes targeting US military facilities and bases across the Middle East.

Meanwhile, a delegation from Oman travelled to Tehran for discussions related to the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway that plays a major role in global energy shipments.

US President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran were continuing but warned that further military action remained possible.

“We are talking to them. I think they’re being serious,” Trump said, while adding that progress was not guaranteed.

The latest developments highlight the continued instability in the region, with tensions involving Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Iran-aligned groups remaining high.
