The glamorous 2026 Cannes Film Festival has officially begun in France, bringing together some of the world’s biggest film stars, directors, and fashion icons for one of cinema’s most celebrated events.
The festival’s opening ceremony took place at the Grand Théâtre Lumière and was hosted by French-Malian actress Eye Haïdara. This year’s jury is led by acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, making history as the festival’s first Korean jury president.
Joining the jury are several internationally recognized names, including Demi Moore, Ruth Negga, Laura Wandel, Chloé Zhao, Diego Céspedes, Isaach De Bankolé, Paul Laverty, and Stellan Skarsgård.
The opening ceremony also featured performances by Theodora and Oklou, followed by a screening of The Electric Venus directed by Pierre Salvadori.
Fashion quickly became one of the festival’s biggest talking points. Early standout looks included Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu wearing a flowing purple gown by Saint Laurent designer Anthony Vaccarello.
Meanwhile, Demi Moore impressed audiences with sparkling couture looks by Jacquemus, while stars such as Isabelle Huppert and Sandra Hüller delivered elegant and avant-garde fashion moments on the famous Croisette.
Directors and jury members also attracted attention for their distinctive personal style, particularly Chloé Zhao and Park Chan-wook.
With two more weeks of premieres, celebrity appearances, and couture fashion still to come, the Cannes red carpet is expected to continue producing some of the year’s most memorable style moments.
