Residents of Nethy Bridge have been allowed to return to their homes after a major wildfire in the Cairngorms National Park was brought under greater control.

Police Scotland confirmed that the immediate danger that led to the evacuation had passed following the combined efforts of firefighters, gamekeepers, contractors, and emergency response teams.

Superintendent Judy Hill praised the local community for their patience and cooperation during the evacuation period.

She said the hard work of emergency crews and supporting teams had helped remove the immediate threat that forced residents to leave their properties.

Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney also welcomed the development and praised those working to tackle the wildfire, which had continued for 10 days.

He highlighted the challenges created by changing weather conditions and recognised the resilience and dedication of firefighters and other teams involved in the response.

Although residents have been permitted to return home, authorities continue to monitor the situation as efforts remain focused on fully controlling the wildfire.
