Campaigners Call for Jared Leto’s Concerts to Be Cancelled After Criminal Sexual Conduct Claims

Women’s safety campaigners are calling for Jared Leto’s upcoming UK concerts to be cancelled following allegations of sexual misconduct and criminal sexual conduct involving four women.

The claims were detailed in a recent BBC investigation, which reported allegations from four women concerning behaviour including sexual assault and grooming.

Leto, the frontman of Thirty Seconds to Mars, strongly denies the allegations.

Allegations Date Back to the 2000s and 2010s

According to the investigation, the alleged incidents took place during the 2000s and 2010s, when the women were teenagers and Leto was in his 30s and 40s.

Leto is now 54.

The allegations have prompted concerns from organisations working on women’s safety and domestic abuse, particularly because the musician remains scheduled to perform in the UK next year.

Campaigners Raise Concerns Over UK Concerts

The End Violence Against Women Coalition and domestic abuse charity Women’s Aid have told BBC Newsbeat that they are concerned about the planned concerts.

Leto and his band are currently scheduled to perform at major arenas in London and Manchester next April.

The campaign groups have urged organisers to reconsider holding the events in light of the allegations.

Organisers Asked for Comment

BBC Newsbeat contacted the concert promoters, venues and Thirty Seconds to Mars for comment but had not received responses at the time of reporting.

The allegations remain disputed, with Leto strongly rejecting the claims.

The controversy has nevertheless prompted renewed discussion about how concert organisers and venues should respond when serious allegations are made against high-profile performers.
