BlackRock, Carhartt, Ford Motor Co., and Google have launched a new initiative aimed at expanding access to skilled trades training and addressing growing labor shortages across the United States.
The Alliance for America’s Skilled Trades will focus on creating more opportunities for people to enter careers in areas such as construction, manufacturing, infrastructure, and other skilled professions.
According to the companies, the initiative will work with labor unions and trade organizations, support apprenticeship programs, and promote skilled trades as a strong career pathway.
The companies said investment in infrastructure and economic development depends on having a trained workforce capable of completing major projects.
Bayo Ogunlesi, chairman and CEO of BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners, said that building America’s infrastructure requires a long-term commitment to developing skilled workers.
“Investment in America’s infrastructure will help shape the country’s long-term economic trajectory,” Ogunlesi said, adding that expanding the talent pipeline requires cooperation across multiple sectors.
The initiative comes as many industries continue facing shortages of skilled workers. Businesses are increasingly investing in training programs and partnerships to prepare workers for high-demand jobs.
By supporting apprenticeships and career development opportunities, the alliance aims to create new pathways into skilled trades while helping companies meet future workforce needs.
