Xabi Alonso has refrained from discussing his future after reports linked him with the Real Madrid managerial position. The 43-year-old Bayer Leverkusen manager is reportedly a top candidate to replace Carlo Ancelotti, should the Italian depart at the end of the season.
Alonso has earned widespread acclaim for his remarkable achievements, including leading Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title and the German Cup in his first full season as a senior manager. However, the former Real Madrid midfielder remains focused on his current responsibilities.
“It’s not a good time to discuss the future,” Alonso said, with his Leverkusen team sitting just six points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, with five games remaining. “We’re in a very important moment in the season.”
