Massive wildfires in Israel and the West Bank have led to evacuations of over 10,000 residents, closure of major highways, and a national emergency declaration.

On April 30, 2025, massive wildfires erupted in the Judaean Mountains, affecting areas in Israel and the West Bank. The fires have burned over 25,000 dunams (approximately 6,170 acres), leading to the evacuation of more than 10,000 residents from communities including Neve Shalom, Beko’a, Ta’oz, and Mevo Horon. Major highways, including Route 1 connecting Jerusalem to Tel Aviv, were closed due to the advancing flames. At least 45 individuals have been injured, with 17 firefighters among them. The Israeli government has declared a national emergency and requested international assistance, receiving firefighting aircraft from countries such as Italy, Croatia, and France. The fires have also led to the cancellation of Memorial Day and Independence Day events. Investigations into the cause of the fires are ongoing, with some officials suggesting possible arson. The situation highlights the increasing frequency and severity of wildfires in the region, exacerbated by climate change and land management practices.
