President Donald Trump has signaled that the United States may withdraw from its efforts to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine if significant progress is not made in the coming days. Speaking from the Oval Office on Friday, Trump stated that while he does not expect an immediate truce, he hopes for a resolution “quickly” and expressed that the U.S. would “take a pass” if either Moscow or Kyiv makes it too difficult to achieve peace.

The president’s remarks were echoed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who emphasized that the U.S. would not continue its efforts if clear signs of progress were not seen within a matter of days. Rubio added, “We’re not going to continue with this endeavour for weeks and months on end,” noting that the U.S. has other priorities to focus on.

The statements reflect a growing impatience with the ongoing conflict and an indication that the U.S. may shift its foreign policy focus if peace talks fail to yield results in the near future.
