A federal judge in New York ruled Friday that Sean “Diddy” Combs’ upcoming sex-trafficking trial will proceed as scheduled, denying a request from his attorneys to delay proceedings by two months.

Judge Arun Subramanian confirmed that jury selection will begin on May 5. During the hearing, the judge noted there was no clear reason why Combs’ legal team would need additional time to prepare, even after two new counts were added earlier this month. Prosecutors had opposed the delay.

Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to five charges, including sex trafficking, transportation to engage in prostitution, and racketeering conspiracy. Authorities allege the offenses spanned two decades. He has been held in federal detention in New York City since his arrest last September.

Prosecutors accuse Combs and others of coercing at least three women into sex acts, sometimes involving male prostitutes. The incidents, allegedly known as “Freak Offs,” reportedly involved the women being drugged and forced into sex for days. Authorities also claim Combs recorded some of the acts and used promises of career opportunities, along with threats of violence, to maintain control over his victims.
