A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers has issued a formal warning to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang ahead of his upcoming trip to China, urging him to avoid any engagements with entities that may be involved in undermining U.S. chip export controls.
In a letter signed by Republican Senator Jim Banks and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, the senators expressed concern over potential meetings with Chinese firms suspected of cooperating with China’s military or intelligence agencies, or those listed on the U.S. restricted export list.
“We urge you to refrain from participating in meetings that could unintentionally lend credibility to companies working against U.S. national interests,” the senators wrote. They emphasized that any perceived collaboration could further strain U.S.-China relations and raise questions over Nvidia’s compliance with U.S. export policies.
The letter comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing over semiconductor technology, as the U.S. continues to tighten export restrictions aimed at preventing China from gaining access to advanced chips for military use.
Nvidia, a global leader in AI and graphics processing technology, has become central to the geopolitical debate due to its powerful hardware being in high demand worldwide, including in restricted regions.
Nvidia has not publicly responded to the letter as of this writing.
