The State Board of Education in Mississippi has voted to recommend relocating the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) to Mississippi State University (MSU).
Currently based on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women (MUW), the school serves gifted 11th and 12th-grade students and has produced over 3,000 graduates since its establishment in 1987.
A subcommittee, tasked with evaluating proposals from both universities to increase enrollment, used a scoring system to guide their decision. According to board member Dr. Ronnie McGehee, this system played a key role in the recommendation to move MSMS to MSU. The final decision now rests with the state legislature.
