A small aircraft crash-landed near Rourkela in Odisha on Friday after developing a technical fault mid-flight. The incident injured six people who were on board at the time. Officials confirmed that all the injured were taken to hospital and are receiving medical treatment.
The aircraft was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela when the pilot noticed a problem. As a result, the pilot decided to make an emergency landing to avoid a more serious accident. The plane came down in an open field around 10 kilometres from Rourkela airport.
๐ Passengers Injured, Rescue Teams Respond
Emergency services reached the site soon after the crash landing. Local residents also rushed to help before rescue teams arrived. According to officials, six passengers suffered injuries, although none are believed to be life-threatening.
Medical teams shifted the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Doctors said most passengers sustained minor injuries caused by the sudden landing. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, police secured the area to prevent crowding and to ensure smooth rescue operations. Fire and emergency officials also inspected the aircraft to rule out the risk of fire or fuel leakage.
๐ ๏ธ Technical Fault Forced Landing
Preliminary information suggests that a technical malfunction forced the pilot to abort the flight. Aviation officials said the pilot followed standard safety procedures after detecting the issue. Because of this decision, the aircraft avoided a potentially serious crash.
Officials have not yet disclosed the exact nature of the fault. However, they said a detailed inspection of the aircraft will determine what went wrong. The aircraft involved was a small passenger plane with limited seating capacity.
Authorities stressed that emergency landings are rare but necessary when safety is at risk. They also praised the pilotโs quick response under pressure.
๐งพ Probe Launched by Aviation Authorities
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed about the incident. A formal investigation will now examine maintenance records, pilot reports, and technical data from the aircraft.
Investigators will also review whether weather conditions played any role. Early reports suggest visibility was normal at the time of the incident. Still, officials said all possible factors would be examined.
The aircraft will remain grounded until the investigation concludes. Aviation experts say such probes help improve safety standards and prevent future incidents.
๐ Flights Resume, Safety Emphasised
Operations at Rourkela airport continued as normal after the incident. Airport officials confirmed that no damage occurred to airport infrastructure, as the plane landed outside the operational area.
State authorities said passenger safety remains the top priority. They also urged travellers to remain calm, noting that emergency landings are handled with strict safety protocols.
As the investigation continues, officials are expected to release further updates. For now, all injured passengers remain under observation, and authorities say their condition is stable.
