Scientists from the Sanger Institute’s Tree of Life programme have announced plans to sequence the genome of the winner of the 2025 “Invertebrate of the Year” competition. This project aims to provide critical insights into the biology and evolution of invertebrates, contributing to conservation efforts and enhancing understanding of biodiversity. Previous genome sequencing efforts have revealed remarkable survival traits in species like tardigrades, offering potential biotechnological applications.
