The partnership includes leading institutions and companies such as Oxford University Innovation, Oxfordshire County Council, Moderna, Oxford Nanopore, and Siemens Healthineers. By working together, these partners plan to support business growth, attract investment, and nurture local talent.
Professor Irene Tracey, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, said: “Oxford has always been a hub for groundbreaking ideas. Equinox will ensure that these ideas translate into sustainable growth and benefit communities across the region.”
Goals, Strategy, and Initial Actions
Equinox is designed to create a thriving ecosystem for innovation in Oxfordshire. In the first year, the partnership will:
- Establish an inward investment unit to attract new companies.
- Enhance collaboration between universities and businesses.
- Expand skills development programs, apprenticeships, and training opportunities.
Robert Begbie, Commercial & Institutional CEO at NatWest, said: “Equinox marks a significant step in regional innovation. By connecting universities, industry, and local authorities, the partnership can generate long-term economic growth while ensuring opportunities are widely shared.”
Oxford University has a strong track record of creating spin-out companies. Since 2011, it has launched over 225 companies through Oxford University Innovation. Equinox builds on this legacy, translating research into practical solutions, attracting investment, and promoting equitable economic opportunities.
By combining expertise and resources, Equinox aims to drive technological innovation, increase regional investment, and strengthen inclusive economic development. The partnership demonstrates Oxford’s commitment to ensuring that innovation benefits both businesses and the wider community.
