Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday (September 10, 2025) that the country’s airspace was violated by a “huge number” of Russian drones, some of which were destroyed after being deemed a direct threat.
“Last night the Polish airspace was violated by a huge number of Russian drones. Those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down,” Tusk confirmed in remarks to reporters.
According to Poland’s Defense Ministry, the drones entered Polish airspace overnight, triggering a coordinated response with NATO allies. Several drones were intercepted and destroyed before causing damage.
Tusk described the incident as a “provocation on a large scale,” warning that Russia’s actions were designed to destabilize NATO’s eastern flank amid ongoing tensions over the war in Ukraine.
The violation is the latest in a series of escalating incidents testing NATO’s air defenses, raising fears of a broader confrontation should such incursions continue.
