Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative (PC) party will once again represent Brampton Centre at Queen’s Park after Charmaine Williams won a second term in Thursday’s provincial election.
With all polls reporting, Williams took just under 52 per cent of the vote, followed by Liberal candidate and current Brampton Wards 3 and 4 Coun. Martin Medeiros with 33.8 per cent, and NDP candidate Sukhamrit Singh a distant third at 8.8 per cent.
The PCs won a third straight majority mandate. Newly re-elected Premier Doug Ford called a snap election while placing a heavy focus on seeking a strong mandate to combat U.S. President Donald Trump’s ongoing tariff and annexation threats.
Williams echoed her party leader’s sentiments in the wake of her sizable victory on election night.
“It is so important to hear from the community if they want to go against these tariffs. Brampton is a manufacturing city, if there are tariffs it could really impact us in our city. I don’t want to see people losing their jobs. I’m so thrilled that the people have spoken to have Doug Ford and our PC government leading this fight in the trade war,” Williams told the Brampton Guardian in an interview.
