Former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning about the growing BRICS alliance, saying the economic bloc would “end very quickly” if it ever formed into a meaningful power structure. His comments came during a campaign-style address in which he reiterated plans to impose tough tariffs on BRICS countries.
“If they try to come together in any serious way, I’ll hit them very, very hard,” Trump said, referencing the bloc that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Trump has frequently criticized what he sees as unfair trade practices by major BRICS economies, especially China. His latest remarks suggest that if re-elected, he would take aggressive steps to curb the bloc’s influence on global trade and geopolitics.
While BRICS members continue to explore deeper cooperation in trade and finance, Trump’s comments underscore potential challenges ahead, particularly in a global environment increasingly shaped by economic nationalism and shifting alliances.
