A former Afghan interpreter who once worked alongside Canadian forces in Afghanistan delivered emotional testimony in a Canadian courtroom, accusing a Global Affairs Canada employee of sexually abusing her after she arrived in the country.
Tearfully clutching a teddy bear for comfort, the woman described the traumatic experiences she endured, saying she came to Canada with “one and only goal” — to pursue her studies in peace and safety.
The interpreter was among those brought to Canada under special immigration measures for individuals who assisted the Canadian government in conflict zones. However, instead of the new beginning she had hoped for, she claims she was subjected to a devastating abuse of power.
The identity of the accused has not been made public as the case proceeds through court. The incident has raised broader questions about the treatment and support systems in place for vulnerable newcomers — particularly those who arrived under humanitarian protections.
