Iran Warns of ‘Decisive Response’ After Trump’s Strikes on Houthis

Tehran, Iran: Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have issued a stern warning against any attacks on the country, vowing a “decisive and conclusive response” following a wave of US airstrikes on Yemen’s Houthi rebels ordered by President Donald Trump.

On Saturday, Trump stated that the US had taken “decisive and powerful military action” to neutralize the Houthi threat in the Red Sea, while also demanding that Iran immediately end its support for the group. According to a Houthi health official, at least 31 people were killed in the strikes.

Iranian Guards chief Hossein Salami denounced Trump’s warnings in a televised address, stating, “Iran will not wage war, but if anyone threatens, it will respond appropriately and decisively.” He also insisted that the Houthis operate independently and are the true representatives of the Yemeni people.

This latest escalation follows a history of tensions between Iran and the US, including the 2020 killing of Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, by a US drone strike in Baghdad. Days later, Iran launched missile attacks on US bases in Iraq, injuring several American troops.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei condemned the latest US airstrikes as a “gross violation of the UN Charter”, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on X that Washington has “no authority to dictate Iran’s foreign policy” and urged the US to stop “killing Yemeni people.”

The Houthis, who have controlled much of Yemen for over a decade, are part of Iran’s “Axis of Resistance” against Israel and the United States. They have launched attacks on Israel and Red Sea shipping in retaliation for the war in Gaza.

These latest US strikes on the Houthis mark the first major military action of Trump’s new term, signaling heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.
