Janelle Monáe has once again proven she is one of Halloween’s most creative stars. Known for her jaw-dropping costumes each year—last Halloween she transformed into E.T.—Monáe approached this season with the same theatrical flair and imagination.

“Halloween has always been a spiritual and sacred time for me,” Monáe told Vogue. She reminisced about trick-or-treating as a child and the excitement of choosing costumes with her family. That sense of play and creativity, she says, continues to fuel her love for the holiday.

This year, Monáe transformed into the iconic Cat in the Hat, putting a whimsical spin on the beloved Dr. Seuss character. Over the years, she has embodied everything from a headless bride to Diva Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element, always fully committing to each role.

“Halloween is my creative playground,” Monáe said. “As a storyteller and artist, I get to keep discovering new levels of my imagination and transformation. I went into this Halloween feeling like a whimsical and seasoned maestro.”

Her costume—complete with her signature black-and-white style—was also a playful nod to her fashion identity. “As a black-and-white uniform wearer, it was always in the cards to step into the role of the Cat,” she added. “Of all the Dr. Seuss characters, we have the most in common—the black and white, with the pop of red! The mischief! The tuxedos! The handsomeness! The whiskers! We are twins!”

With her latest look, Monáe continues her reign as one of Halloween’s most imaginative and committed costume stars.
