One of the most highly anticipated video games in history, Grand Theft Auto 6, has officially been delayed. Rockstar Games announced that the game, originally slated for a 2025 release, will now arrive in May 2026.
The developer cited a commitment to quality, saying it needed more time to “deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
The delay is sure to disappoint fans, many of whom have been waiting over a decade for the follow-up to Grand Theft Auto V — the second-best selling video game of all time. GTA V has remained wildly popular since its 2013 release, largely thanks to its dynamic GTA Online mode, which continues to draw millions of players.
Rockstar’s last teaser for GTA 6 broke records, with the trailer racking up over 100 million views in just 48 hours. Set in a modern-day, Vice City-inspired location, the game promises an expansive open world and two playable protagonists, sparking further fan excitement.
While delays in the gaming industry are nothing new, Rockstar’s emphasis on quality over speed is likely to reassure players who expect nothing short of a masterpiece.
