Wrestling legend and pop culture icon Hulk Hogan has passed away at the age of 71, according to an official statement released by WWE on Thursday.

“WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” the organization wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global fame in the 1980s.”

Born Terry Bollea, Hogan became one of the most influential figures in professional wrestling history. He first entered the wrestling world in 1977 and rose to fame during the 1980s and 1990s, becoming a household name with his larger-than-life persona, charisma, and unmatched popularity.

In addition to his wrestling career, Hogan also appeared in movies and television, further cementing his status as a global entertainment icon. Despite controversies during his career—including a suspension from the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015 due to the use of a racial slur—he was reinstated in 2018.

WWE extended its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and millions of fans around the world.
