Megan Stalter knew how to own a moment the second she said, “Hi, gay!”—a viral line that shot her into internet stardom and cemented her as one of comedy’s most original voices. Since then, she’s only doubled down on her chaotic brilliance, particularly as Kayla, the gloriously unhinged assistant-turned-executive on Hacks. But with her latest role in Netflix’s Too Much, Stalter isn’t just stealing scenes—she’s officially center stage.
In Too Much, Stalter plays Jessica, an American fleeing heartbreak by starting over in London. It’s her most layered, lead role yet—and fittingly, she’s bringing that same emotional depth and maximalism to her red carpet presence.
Alongside longtime stylist Kat Typaldos, Stalter has carved out a space in fashion that is uniquely hers: part performance art, part high-camp homage, part Tumblr-core chaos. In June, she turned heads at the Critics Choice Association Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television, arriving in full beauty-queen fantasy—blue eyeshadow, roses in hand, and a sash that read “Best Gay Actor.” It was loud, it was absurd, and it was deeply on-brand.
“It feels really chaotic, but there’s always something that grounds it,” Typaldos told Vogue, describing their fashion process as intuitive and ever-evolving.
Indeed, Stalter’s style doesn’t just complement her comedic sensibility—it extends it, offering fans a new character with every red carpet appearance. One day she’s a retro-chic intellectual from LA; the next, a ‘90s supermodel pulled from a forgotten Versace campaign. Nothing is predictable—and that’s the point.
“We didn’t even have a formal conversation about our approach to all this,” Typaldos said. “We’re adding and taking away and building out these characters as we see fit.”
It’s a maximalist ethos that doesn’t chase trends—it writes its own. And as Stalter continues to rise in Hollywood, her fearless fashion experimentation is setting a new bar for red carpet storytelling.
