In a bid to advance global research capabilities, the University of Oxford is expanding its AI in Science Fellowship Programme to include early-career faculty from African and Indian universities. The newly established Oxford Schmidt Africa-India AI in Science Faculty Fellowship (AI2-Ox SFF) Programme will fund 18 faculty research fellows over the next five years, starting in 2025.Home
Developed in partnership with the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) and the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development (OICSD), the programme aims to equip researchers with cutting-edge AI and machine learning tools to address complex scientific challenges. The fellowship adopts a “1+1+1” year structure, allowing fellows to develop AI training and research programmes at their home institutions before transitioning to Oxford for further collaboration. Throughout the programme, fellows will receive bespoke training, mentoring from leading Oxford researchers, and opportunities to build robust academic networks. This initiative underscores Oxford’s commitment to fostering equitable collaborations and enhancing research capabilities in the global south.
