Panaji, October 31 (PTI) — East Bengal will look to bounce back from their recent IFA Shield final heartbreak when they face arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in a decisive Group A Super Cup fixture on Friday, a contest doubling as a virtual quarter-final.

Just two weeks ago, East Bengal outplayed Mohun Bagan in regulation and extra time, only to fall short in the tie-breaker after a brilliant save by goalkeeper Vishal Kaith. That loss has only intensified the Red and Gold Brigade’s hunger for redemption as they prepare for one of the most anticipated derbies of the season.

The stakes could not be higher. The team that wins the Kolkata Derby will march straight into the semi-finals. However, a draw brings permutations into play: East Bengal will advance unless Dempo defeat Chennaiyin FC by five or more goals.

If Dempo win by four while conceding, and the derby finishes goalless, the Goan side will progress instead.
