Delhi University’s biggest exam exercise unfolded during the November–December 2025 session. The Examination Branch carried out semester tests for more than 7 lakh students across nearly 90 colleges. This included students from the regular system and the School of Open Learning (SOL).

Officials said this was the largest workload the branch has handled since the National Education Policy (NEP) came into effect. The NEP guides how exams and academic sessions operate across Indian universities.

The large scale of this exam period has put the spotlight on how the university plans and executes major assessment cycles. Observers said the effort shows how university procedures have expanded to meet growing student numbers.

📝 Question Papers and Evaluation Effort

To manage this vast exercise, the university prepared around 15,000 question papers for the session. These covered a wide range of subjects and levels. The task required careful planning and coordination between departments.

More than 10,000 teachers were involved in administering and evaluating the papers. Officials also set up multiple Central Evaluation Centres to speed up the process and maintain transparency.

Data from previous sessions show that exam operations have expanded steadily over the years. The latest session saw more scheduled test days and a peak number of papers managed per day.

The Examination Branch noted that on several days more than 800 papers were administered, with a single-day high of 941 papers. By comparison, the corresponding session in 2024 handled far fewer papers.

Of the total examinees, a significant number were part of the School of Open Learning. SOL caters to distance-education students who study remotely but take the same exams as regular students.

On a single day during the session, about 2.28 lakh students sat for exams. These figures reflect a growing demand for both regular and distance learning courses at the university.

University officials noted that undergraduate students made up most of the test takers on that day. A smaller portion belonged to postgraduate courses.

The university said the increase in students examined and the volume of question papers highlights the expanding role of the Examination Branch. It also pointed to the need for continued investment in administrative capacity and evaluation infrastructure.

📖 Record Workload Under NEP and Forward Planning

Officials highlighted that the novelty of the NEP framework partly explains the scale of this session’s exams. As academic programs evolve under the policy, exam structures have also grown in complexity and size.

As Delhi University moves into future semesters, managing such large exam loads will remain a priority. The university will likely refine scheduling and assessment strategies to handle even larger student cohorts.

For now, the Nov–Dec session stands as a milestone in the university’s examination history. Administrators say the experience will help in planning future exams smoothly and efficiently.
