The Canadian star shares her journey after discovering early melanoma
Renowned comedian and television personality Katherine Ryan has revealed that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer for the second time. The 41-year-old stand-up comic discussed her health update on her popular podcast, expressing both relief and concern as she embarks on another fight against the disease.
🎤 Cancer Returns After Two Decades
Ryan, who was first diagnosed with skin cancer in 2004 while she was a university student in Toronto, recounted her initial experience with the disease. At the time, doctors removed a “golf ball-sized” lump from her thigh, successfully treating the condition.
Now, more than two decades later, Ryan faces another battle after a cancerous mole was discovered on her arm.
“I had a mole that didn’t look right, and I felt uneasy about it,” she said. “At first, my doctor wasn’t too concerned, but I pushed for tests because I’ve been through this before. I’m so glad I did because it turned out to be early melanoma.”
🩺 Early Detection and Treatment
Ryan explained that the mole has already been surgically removed, but she will undergo a further procedure next week to ensure that all traces of the melanoma have been eradicated.
“I’m relieved we caught it early,” she shared with her listeners. “The next step is making sure there’s nothing left behind. It’s scary, but I’m staying positive.”
🕰️ Past Experience Shaped Her Awareness
The Canadian comedian credited her previous experience with cancer for making her more vigilant about potential warning signs.
“Back in 2004, I didn’t think too much about it, but having gone through it once, I knew not to ignore my gut feeling this time,” she said.
💬 Spreading Awareness and Encouraging Vigilance
Ryan has been using her platform to encourage her fans and followers to stay proactive about their health.
“If something doesn’t feel right, don’t be afraid to ask for a second opinion,” she urged. “Early detection makes all the difference, and I hope by sharing my story, I can encourage others to stay on top of their health.”
🌟 Support from Fans and Fellow Celebrities
Following her podcast revelation, messages of support have poured in from fans and fellow comedians.
Alan Carr, fellow comedian and close friend, commented, “You’re a fighter, and we’re all behind you.”
Fans have also taken to social media, applauding Ryan for her openness and inspiring attitude.
🗓️ What’s Next for Katherine Ryan?
As Ryan prepares for her upcoming procedure, she remains focused on her work, continuing to perform and produce her popular podcast and comedy specials.
