China has pledged to use its vast domestic market to support exporters impacted by rising tariffs, signaling a proactive approach to mitigating external shocks from the ongoing trade tensions with the United States.
In a statement issued Friday, the Commerce Ministry emphasized that the domestic market would provide “strong backing for enterprises involved in foreign trade.” The comments followed a high-level meeting in Beijing attended by Vice Minister Sheng Qiuping.
The ministry highlighted the need to “give better play to the advantages of the super-large-scale market,” stressing the importance of combining efforts to stabilize foreign trade with strategies aimed at expanding domestic consumption.
This move underlines Beijing’s focus on cushioning the impact of global trade disruptions on Chinese companies while simultaneously boosting internal economic activity. The strategy aims to ensure that exporters find alternative local opportunities as they adapt to a shifting international trade environment.
