Belfast-based artist Johnny Hamilton says he feels “humiliated” and left in the dark after the scheduled unveiling of his latest mural at Grand Central Station was postponed indefinitely — nearly a month after its installation.
The large-scale artwork, which reportedly depicts iconic local musician Van Morrison, remains completely covered, despite anticipation around its public debut. Hamilton was commissioned to produce the piece as part of a high-profile branding collaboration, but the sudden change of plans has raised questions about internal disputes or approval issues.
“I put my heart into this project,” Hamilton told reporters. “To see it hidden like this with no explanation feels deeply disrespectful.”
Translink, which manages Grand Central Station, confirmed it merely provided the wall space and is not responsible for the delay. “Inquiries should be directed to the commissioning company and the artist,” a spokesperson said.
As of now, no new date has been given for the mural’s unveiling, leaving both the public and the artist in frustrating limbo.
