Grand Theft Auto 6 has been surrounded by renewed anticipation ahead of Rockstar Games’ planned extended preview, but a series of apparent leaks could overshadow the highly anticipated release.

It has been more than 18 months since the last GTA 6 trailer was released. Rockstar recently announced plans to break its long silence with a special 30-minute preview on Netflix, giving fans a closer look at the upcoming game.

However, the build-up has been disrupted by clips that appear to show GTA 6 gameplay. Rockstar has not publicly confirmed the authenticity of the footage or responded to requests for comment since the leaks first appeared.

Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has taken legal action over the leaks. Court filings reportedly show the company seeking information from Microsoft-owned GitHub and chat platform Discord about accounts believed to be distributing copyrighted material.

Copies of the leaked footage have also been removed from the internet following copyright claims, while several accounts claiming to be connected to those responsible for the leaks have disappeared.

Although some fans have described the situation as a nightmare for Rockstar, industry experts and a former Rockstar developer suggest the impact may be more complicated. The leaks could create short-term disruption, but the enormous anticipation surrounding GTA 6 means the game’s wider launch prospects may remain largely unaffected.
