At least three people, including a child, have been killed in overnight Russian missile attacks near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, according to local officials.

The attacks took place in the early hours of Saturday, with missiles striking areas east of Kyiv. Residents reported hearing powerful explosions just days after a separate wave of Russian strikes across Ukraine killed 21 people.

Missile Strikes Kill Three

Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv regional military administration, said ballistic missile strikes killed three people and injured another three.

Falling debris damaged apartment buildings and vehicles, while fires broke out at several locations.

Emergency crews were also working to extinguish fires at a building and a fuel tank in Kyiv, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, known as DSNS, released photographs showing garages, a business and a building on fire. Officials said the number of casualties was still being confirmed.

Zelensky Visits Serbia

The latest attacks came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, for his first official visit to the country.

Zelensky is expected to meet Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to discuss economic cooperation, security issues and Serbia’s relationship with the European Union.

Ukraine has been seeking broader international support during the war, although Serbia has maintained close ties with Russia and has not imposed sanctions on Moscow.

Serbia is seeking membership of the European Union and has provided humanitarian assistance to Ukraine while also expressing support for the country’s reconstruction efforts.

The latest missile strikes near Kyiv underline the continuing threat faced by Ukrainian civilians as the war with Russia continues.
