A growing number of young investors are putting their savings into technology stocks, hoping to build long-term wealth despite the risks of a volatile market.

For Michelle Huynh, a 26-year-old sales professional in Australia, investing in the stock market is part of a personal goal she set as a teenager — becoming a millionaire before turning 30.

Huynh, the eldest daughter of migrant parents, says the ambition came from seeing the sacrifices her family made while building a new life.

She believes investing has become increasingly important for younger generations as the cost of living rises and purchasing power declines.

“Times are so different and investing has become a necessity,” she said, explaining that the stock market feels like one of the few ways to protect and grow her savings.

A significant portion of her investments is focused on technology companies. During the recent technology-driven market rally, her tech investments increased by around A$31,000 by mid-July, representing a 50% gain for that portion of her portfolio.

However, as technology stocks experienced a period of uncertainty, those gains later dropped to about A$22,000.

Despite the fluctuations, Huynh remains confident in her strategy and views her technology investments as a long-term opportunity rather than a quick way to make money.

The trend reflects a wider shift among younger investors, many of whom are using online platforms and market access tools to invest earlier than previous generations. While technology stocks can offer significant growth potential, experts warn that high returns often come with greater risks and market swings.
