Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says her government will not respond to U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest tariff threat by banning American alcohol products.

Speaking on her provincewide radio call-in show, Smith said retailers and consumers should decide for themselves whether to stock or purchase products from the United States.

Her comments come after Trump threatened to impose a 50% tariff on Canadian goods, raising concerns about trade relations between the two countries.

Smith said the United States has not prohibited Canadian products from entering its market and argued that imposing an alcohol ban would be an excessive response.

She stressed that Alberta’s approach should remain calm and measured rather than emotional.

According to Smith, the province will continue addressing trade challenges on a sector-by-sector basis instead of introducing broad retaliatory measures.

The comments highlight Alberta’s preference for maintaining stable trade relations while awaiting further developments on the proposed U.S. tariffs.
