Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least one person and injured others, according to Lebanon’s health ministry, just one day after Israel and Lebanon signed a US-brokered agreement intended to lay the groundwork for lasting peace.

Lebanon’s state news agency reported that an Israeli drone struck the southern town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, with additional strikes later hitting nearby areas. At least two people were also reported wounded in the attacks.

The Israeli military confirmed it carried out a drone strike, stating that the target was an individual who posed a threat to Israeli forces. However, it did not provide further details about the operation.

The strikes came shortly after both countries agreed to a four-point framework deal aimed at reducing tensions along the border. Under the agreement, Israel is expected to withdraw its forces from the South Litani region, while the Lebanese army would take full control of the area.

However, the deal also allows Israeli forces to maintain positions in an expanded security zone in southern Lebanon, a provision that has already raised concerns among critics.

Hezbollah, which was not involved in the negotiations, strongly condemned the agreement. The group’s leader rejected the deal, accusing Lebanon’s government of undermining national sovereignty by agreeing to the US-brokered framework.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the agreement reached in Washington as “historic,” calling it a strategic setback for Iran and Hezbollah.

Despite the diplomatic announcement, the latest strikes underscore the fragile nature of the situation and the continued volatility along the Israel-Lebanon border, where military activity and political tensions remain high.
