Pep Guardiola will leave his role as manager of Manchester City at the end of the season, the club confirmed on Friday, bringing to a close one of the most successful managerial eras in modern football history.

Guardiola, who transformed Manchester City into a dominant force in English and European football over the past decade, reflected emotionally on his departure in a club statement.

“When I arrived, my first interview was with (Oasis frontman) Noel Gallagher. I walked out thinking, ‘Okay… Noel is here? This will be fun,’” Guardiola said.

“And what a time we have had together. Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time. Nothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here.”

The Spanish manager added: “Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City.”

During his time at the club, Guardiola led City to numerous domestic league titles, cup victories, and European success, redefining the team’s playing style with his possession-based philosophy and tactical innovation.

“We worked. We suffered. We fought. And we did things our own way. Our way,” Guardiola said in his farewell message. He also referenced the reunion of British rock band Oasis, adding: “So as my time comes to an end, be happy. Oasis are back again. … Love you all.”

Guardiola’s departure is expected to trigger intense speculation over who will replace him at Manchester City and what direction the club will take after the end of a golden era.

Fans, players, and football figures around the world have already begun paying tribute to the manager widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in football history.
