Maurizio Cattelan has introduced a new artwork that invites people to confess their sins through a hotline. The project allows participants to leave messages using a US phone number or WhatsApp.

📞 How the Hotline Artwork Works

The hotline is open to participants who want to submit their confessions. People can either call or send voice messages. Meanwhile, Cattelan will personally review selected submissions.

He will then choose certain participants to take part in a live-streamed event scheduled for April 23. During this event, he will listen to confessions and respond to them.

Importantly, the process does not involve any official religious authority. Instead, it functions as a symbolic artistic act.

Cattelan described the act as a shared gesture rather than religious absolution.

⛪ Linked to Iconic Sculpture Release

This project accompanies a new edition of Cattelan’s 1999 sculpture “La Nona Ora”. The work depicts Pope John Paul II struck by a meteorite.

The release marks 21 years since the death of the pope. Therefore, the timing connects the new project with historical and symbolic references.

In addition, the artist is producing a limited number of miniature versions of the sculpture. These editions form part of the wider project.
