Sam Rivers, the bassist and founding member of the iconic U.S. nu metal band Limp Bizkit, has passed away at the age of 48. The band shared the news on social media, describing Rivers as more than a musician — “the soul in the sound.”
“From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous,” the group wrote, paying tribute to his pivotal role in their music.
Rivers helped shape Limp Bizkit’s signature hip-hop rock style, contributing to the band’s success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The group, which also includes Fred Durst, John Otto, DJ Lethal, and Wes Borland, achieved fame with albums like Significant Other and Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water, and hit singles including Take a Look Around and the number one track Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle).
“We shared so many moments — wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones — and every one of them meant more because Sam was there,” the band added.
DJ Lethal (Leor Dimant) expressed his shock on Instagram and requested that fans respect the privacy of Rivers’ family. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
