Las Vegas Aces stars Jackie Young and A’ja Wilson delivered a dominant performance as the team secured a 91-78 victory over the Phoenix Mercury in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals. With the win, the Aces take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
While Game 1 was a nail-biting back-and-forth, Sunday’s matchup at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Paradise, Nevada, was a showcase of Las Vegas’s offensive firepower. Wilson, recently crowned a record-breaking fourth-time MVP, recorded 28 points and 14 rebounds, providing steady leadership on the court.
However, it was Jackie Young who stole the spotlight. The former first overall pick exploded for a game-high 32 points, including 21 in a single third quarter—setting a new WNBA Finals record for most points scored in a quarter.
The duo’s combined 60 points marked one of the most prolific scoring performances in Finals history, second only to Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart’s 65 points in 2020 for the Seattle Storm.
Wilson praised Young’s performance, noting her transformation from Game 1. “I don’t know where Jackie was in Game 1,” Wilson said during the ESPN broadcast. “But I am glad she showed up in Game 2. This is Jackie’s element. This is what she lives for, and it’s inspiring to be alongside her.”
Young credited her hot streak to staying aggressive. “I didn’t realize it was that much, I was just trying to play the right way and be aggressive,” she said.
Supporting the duo, guard Chelsea Gray nearly achieved a triple-double with 10 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. For the Mercury, Kahleah Copper led with 23 points.
With the Aces now just two victories away from clinching their third WNBA championship in four years, the series moves to the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix for Game 3 on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
