The first elimination of the Strictly Come Dancing 2025 season has taken place, with Thomas Skinner becoming the first celebrity to leave the competition following a tense dance-off against Chris Robshaw.

After both contestants performed their routines once more on Sunday night’s results show, the judges ultimately chose to save the former England rugby captain Robshaw and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova, ending Skinner’s brief Strictly journey.

The 34-year-old entrepreneur and former Apprentice contestant expressed gratitude for his time on the show and praised his professional dance partner Amy Dowden.

“Thank you, Amy – sorry that we haven’t done too good, ’cause you’re a different class,” Skinner said.
“I’ve never danced before and my stay was short, but Amy’s amazing. It’s been great fun and I’ve enjoyed it. I can’t really dance that well, but I’ve had fun!”

Skinner and Dowden performed a lively salsa to Bonkers by Dizzee Rascal and Armand Van Helden, while Robshaw and Bychkova danced their Viennese waltz to Die With A Smile by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.

With just 13 points from the judges on Saturday night, Skinner and Dowden sat at the bottom of the leaderboard. Their energetic, lift-heavy performance even prompted judge Craig Revel Horwood to quip it resembled a “weightlifting competition.”

Amy Dowden’s Emotional Return and Tribute

Amy Dowden, who has publicly shared her journey battling breast cancer and recently returned to the Strictly stage after injury setbacks, became emotional as she reflected on her experience with Skinner.

“The last three years, as you know, have been quite difficult for me. I lost all confidence as a dancer — but walking into the room with you, with a massive smile and a laugh, you brought me back. Honestly, thank you,” Dowden said.

Dowden, who had to exit the 2024 series due to injury, added that while winning would have been amazing, “happiness, health, and being alive is more important than anything.”

A Familiar Face to TV Viewers

Thomas Skinner rose to fame on The Apprentice in 2019 and has since made appearances on various British shows including 8 Out of 10 Cats, Celebrity MasterChef, Good Morning Britain, and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show. He’s also a social media personality and entrepreneur with several business ventures, including a gym.
