A fast-growing wildfire near Cameron Lake on Vancouver Island has forced the evacuation of nearly 400 properties, including all of Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park.
The Wesley Ridge wildfire, located on the north banks of Cameron Lake, is burning out of control and has now expanded to approximately 373 hectares, according to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).
The Regional District of Nanaimo issued and then expanded evacuation orders for areas around the wildfire, which is roughly 60 kilometres northwest of Nanaimo — a port city home to over 120,000 people and located about 100 kilometres from Victoria.
As of now, the fire is suspected to have been caused by human activity, and is one of nearly 150 wildfires burning across British Columbia.
Emergency crews and wildfire responders are actively working to contain the blaze. Authorities urge residents to follow official evacuation instructions and stay updated via the BC Wildfire Service and local emergency channels.
