A 7-year-old girl reported missing in Chilliwack, British Columbia, has been safely located following an extensive air and ground search operation that stretched into Friday afternoon, the RCMP confirmed.

The young girl, whose name has not been released due to privacy considerations, was last seen Thursday evening near her familyโ€™s residence in the eastern part of Chilliwack. When she did not return home after playing outside, her family contacted local authorities, launching a rapid search-and-rescue response.

Search efforts intensified through the night and into the following day. The Chilliwack RCMP, supported by Search and Rescue BC, canine units, drones, and aerial surveillance helicopters, canvassed wooded areas, nearby waterways, and residential zones within a multi-kilometre radius of the child’s last known location.

Police confirmed she was found around 1:30 p.m. Friday in a wooded area roughly two kilometres from her home. She appeared to be unharmed but was immediately taken to a local hospital as a precaution for evaluation and hydration.

โ€œThe girl was cold and scared but otherwise okay,โ€ said Sgt. Krista Vrolyk of the Chilliwack RCMP. โ€œWeโ€™re grateful for the coordinated efforts of our search teams, volunteers, and community members who worked tirelessly through the night and into the day to bring this case to a safe conclusion.โ€

Authorities credited local residents for responding to the RCMPโ€™s call for information and vigilance. Many residents took to social media to share the girlโ€™s description and whereabouts, helping spread the alert in real time.

The Chilliwack missing girl found safe 2025 case sparked a large emotional response from the local community, many of whom gathered in support of the family throughout the night.

No foul play is suspected at this time, but RCMP said they are continuing to investigate how the girl ended up in the wooded area and whether she became lost or was attempting to explore. The family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and the professionalism of emergency responders.

โ€œWe are beyond relieved and thankful to everyone who helped find our daughter,โ€ said a family statement issued through police.

Officials are now urging parents and guardians to review safety guidelines with children, especially as warmer weather leads to more outdoor activity. The RCMP plans to conduct community outreach programs in schools next week to reinforce safety practices.
