The maximum compensation for individuals found to have experienced workplace discrimination has been increased following a recent vote by the States members.
On Tuesday, the assembly voted to raise the compensation cap from £10,000 to £30,000. The proposal, put forward by Social Security Minister Deputy Lyndsay Feltham, initially suggested a higher cap of £50,000 or the equivalent of 52 weeks’ pay per claim. However, the assembly ultimately voted in favor of Assistant Chief Minister Deputy Malcolm Ferey’s compromise of £30,000.
The amendment passed with 23 votes in favor, 21 votes against, and one abstention, signaling a significant step forward in increasing support for those facing discrimination in the workplace.
