Google to Appeal Monopoly Ruling in U.S. Court Case

Google has announced plans to appeal the unfavorable portion of a recent U.S. court ruling in a major antitrust case. On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema ruled that the tech giant, owned by Alphabet, had “willfully acquired and maintained monopoly power” in the markets for publisher ad servers and ad exchanges.

Publisher ad servers are platforms that websites use to store and manage their digital advertising inventory. Along with ad exchanges, this technology helps news publishers and other online content creators earn revenue through advertising sales.

In response to the ruling, Google said it would challenge the decision, specifically the parts that it considers adverse to its business operations. The case is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s broader efforts to curb monopolistic practices in the tech sector.
